About the concert:
Boston’s Best World Music Act (
Boston Phoenix readers’ poll) presents its Fall 2012 concert! The quartet’s blend of global exotica and "serious jazz and chamber music" (
Boston Herald) using vibes, percussion, bass flute, flute, and acoustic bass with special guest Tev Stevig on oud, continues to spread as they come to the Nave Gallery series in Somerville for the first time. Artistic Director, and "musical polymath" percussionist Brian O’Neill (
Boston Phoenix), who is music supervising for the upcoming PBS documentary,
Plastic Paradise: A Swingin’ Trip Through America’s Polynesian Obsession, just completed an early draft soundtrack of pre-recorded music for the film, and will likely be composing and recording new, not-so-Polynesian Orchestrotica music to accompany the final edition. Early sketches will be performed at the concert, and may also form the basis of the next album in their acclaimed Exotica for Modern Living Series, whose two albums to date were listed in the Top 10 Records for 2011
by the
Huffington Post.
The Orchestrotica’s November concerts (which also includes November 3 @ Barbes, NYC, 8pm, $15) will present new arrangements of Gershwin’s Piano Preludes #1 and #2, which pair wonderfully well with a short visit from the twin Siamese cats from
Lady And The Tramp. Special guest Tev Stevig will also perform as a soloist and duo on oud and clawhammer guitar with Mr. Ho. The band also will perform original works from it’s acclaimed debut 2011 album, "
Third River Rangoon."
"…just about all the original stars of exotica...are gone -- here, at last, is their successor."

Space-age pop big band news:
In 2013, the group’s additional formation as the world’s only 22-pc space-age pop big band performing the lost music of Juan Garcia Esquivel will present it’s transcriptions in Mexico City. The concert will utilize a new ensemble made up of 50% Orchestrotica musicians, and 50% Mexican musicians, most of whom work with Orquesta Victor Guzman. This concert is part of a Mexican bi-national federal arts grant celebrating cultural exchange between musical ensembles. The full American big band will return to Boston on April 27, 2013 via the Standing Room Only concert series in Wakefield, MA.
